While he credits San Francisco Chronicle owner Hearst with waiting longer than most newspaper chains to make severe newsroom cuts, departing managing editor Robert Rosenthal says the general approach of cutting editorial staff to increase revenue is a long-term negative. "Hearst has been incredibly patient, if this had been a publicly traded company, they would not have been this patient," he tells Joe Strupp. Rosenthal says he wasn't pushed out by editor Phil Bronstein or anyone else at the paper.
