Perry Bacon: "What's so troubling is that such passion about defending the status an individual journalist seems odd when I rarely, if ever, see the same names weighing in with this kind of enthusiasm about actual acts of journalism, good or bad. It is just so typical of our defensive culture -- we want to save our own jobs, sure, and certainly the good name of a friend or co-worker, but we are so afraid of taking a stand about anything else." ||
