Ousted editor James O'Shea responded with an increase of $3 million, which he felt was needed in a year when the paper was gearing up for the Olympics in China and continuing to cover the presidential race. O'Shea's successor could be made as early as today. Publisher David Hiller is expected to select either managing editor John Arthur, 60, or innovation editor Russ Stanton, 49.
