Edward Schumacher-Matos doesn't agree with Herald readers who criticize the paper for being soft on Fidel Castro. The ombud notes, though, that Herald reporters seem reluctant to use the word dictator when writing about the Cuban leader. A search of stories since 2000 finds that Castro was called dictator 68 times, compared with 518 times as leader and 445 times as president. In the last six months, he was referred to only twice as dictator. More editor/ombud columns:
