Editor Susan Goldberg decided to a run the Washington Post's shorter story on John McCain, which alluded to the New York Times' story but avoided the romantic implication. "That still did not satisfy the angry readers who called Thursday, arguing that by reporting it at all, The Plain Dealer was giving it credence," writes ombud Ted Diadiun.
