McClatchy says it's trimming its payroll through both voluntary and involuntary separations. A release notes: "McClatchy historically has not used broad layoffs to manage staff size, relying instead on attrition and selected job eliminations through outsourcing ... but today's more competitive media environment and challenging operating conditions mean the company must move more aggressively to shape the overall workforce." || McClatchy's latest report: For the first five months of the year, total revenues declined 14.2% and advertising revenues declined 15.4%. Online advertising grew 11.9% in the first five months of 2008.
