At one time, naming same-sex partners was a source of conflict, says SF Chronicle ombud Dick Rogers. No more; the big issue now is mentioning ex-spouses. "It offends some second wives to have the first one included with the survivors," says Chronicle obits editor Erik Ingram. "Meanwhile, children of the first wife (or husband) want that parent listed as a survivor. It gets into all kinds of family dynamics that can turn ugly in a heartbeat." | More editor/ombud columns:
