Steve Engelberg says Willamette Week's
cover story on the Oregonian's meth epidemic series fails to provide support for its accusations. "It is built on anecdotal comments that ignore the facts of the Oregonian's coverage," writes Engelberg, the daily's managing editor/enterprise. "It meets no acceptable journalistic standard and is filled with hyperbole, sloppy reporting and the use of intentionally misleading statistics." The weekly's questions for the Oregonian "were not posed with the intention of uncovering the truth, but in a sloppy attempt to smear a competitor," says Engelberg.
