The Death and Life of Donald Murray
I'd like to devote this blog entry to the memory of Donald M. Murray. The book "Writing Tools" is dedicated to Don and to the memory of his wife, Minnie Mae, as "godparents to a nation of writers." If

you want to know more about Don and his powerful influence, just begin with a Google search on his name. The web of influence on journalists, writing coaches, teachers, students and writers in all genres reveals him to be one of the nation's most important writing teachers.

In 1996, we at Poynter published an essay of Don's titled "Writer in the Newsroom," which was reprinted, with a full bibliography of Don's work, in a book titled "The Values And Craft Of American Journalism: Essays From The Poynter Institute," published by the University Press of Florida. For journalists, his most important book is probably "Writing to Deadline: The Journalist at Work," published by Heinemann. In the back of that book he recommends a few of his other works, in chronological order:
