Three Little Words
The Honest Writer

The green book's classy look
Many of you who have purchased a copy of "Writing Tools" have been kind enough to comment on the appearance of the book. One bookstore manager called it "the pretty green book," and I've realized how lucky I am to have the support of great designers at Little, Brown.

I've written an essay about how the book came by its classy look, and it appears in this week's edition of Publishers Weekly magazine. The essay supports the ideas in Tool # 46: "Take an interest in all crafts that support your work. To do your best, help others do their best." To accomplish such collaboration, you need a creative protocol that encourages conversations across disciplines, rather than an assembly line of production.

Writers, get to know the designers and photographers in your shop. Work with them as equals. Let them help you see.
