When military historians complete their dissection of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the decision to embed reporters with coalition combat units likely will rank at the top of their list of positive lessons learned. Ironically, a former lieutenant regarded as a villain by many in uniform, Kelly Flinn, played a pivotal, if unwitting, role in the decision to allow the media this unprecedented access to combat operations.
