The Dallas Morning News will leave The Rock of Truth, its home since 1949, for Dallas’ Statler Library next year, according to a press release.
“Our Young Street building is engraved with ‘The Rock of Truth,’ which has guided the intentions of all employees who have walked through these doors since 1949,” said James M. Moroney III, publisher and executive editor of The Dallas Morning News. “While we all share sentimental memories during the past six decades at our home on Young Street, we know the time is right to move into a more accommodating space for a more comprehensive digital newsroom. We have challenged our design team to reimagine and create our ‘Rock of Truth’ at our new headquarters at The Statler Library.”
The press release notes that the cost of the new space isn’t being disclosed and that future of the old building hasn’t yet been determined.
The Morning News, which has embarked on a digital reinvention, announced earlier this year that it was considering a move.
The Statler Library, formerly the Old Dallas Central Library, will be redesigned as a fully-digital newsroom. Dallas Morning News Editor Mike Wilson will work with a team in the newsroom along with the firm Gensler, which worked with The Washington Post, The New York Times and other newsrooms.
The new space will take the Morning News from 325,000 square feet to about 100,000 square feet.
The Morning News is the latest newspaper to move into a new, more modern home. Others include the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Miami Herald, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Boston Herald.
