The Birmingham Business Journal quoted Poynter’s Rick Edmonds in an article about job cuts in journalism:

‘Job cuts are the end result of a ‘vicious cycle’ occurring in the newspaper industry, according to Rick Edmonds, the Poynter Institute’s media business analyst.

“Edmonds said circulation drops result in advertising declines, which have meant jobs cuts in the past two years. Edmonds said cutting newspaper size and staff ultimately could make them less desirable to the public.

” ‘There is some danger that the paper will become so diminished in staff and space that there is a risk of turning off people who do like newspapers,’ Edmonds said.”
