Entries are now being accepted for The 2024 Poynter Journalism Prizes. The contest opened Monday, Jan. 8 and the deadline for all entries is 6 p.m. EST Friday, Feb. 16.

The contest was formerly run by the News Leaders Association and before that, was known as the American Society of News Editors (ASNE) Distinguished Writing Awards. The NLA transferred stewardship of the contest to Poynter as it winds down operations. Poynter renamed the contest the Poynter Journalism Prizes.

To enter, go to the contest website, and create one account per news organization to be used for all entries. The website also offers rules, categories and an FAQ. Winners will be announced in late April.

Entries submitted by 11:59 p.m. Jan. 31, 2024 will pay an early bird discounted fee of $75. After Feb. 1 through the Feb. 16 deadline, the fee is $85.

The 10 prizes are open to all news organizations across platforms. They honor local accountability reporting, diversity, social justice reporting, overall excellence in writing, freedom of information reporting, editorial and column writing, innovation, important journalism that makes a difference to communities and new this year, compelling short writing.
