Jessikka Aro

Finnish journalist and author Jessikka Aro has spent years investigating the activities of pro-Russian internet trolls, including writing the 2019 book, “Putin’s Troll Army” and the 2022 book, “Putin’s Trolls: On the Frontlines of Russia’s Information War Against the World.” Because of her work identifying Russia’s misinformation efforts, she became the target of a “severe and ongoing international propaganda and hate speech campaign,” according to the International Women’s Media Foundation. In 2019, she was slated to receive the International Women of Courage Award from the U.S. State Department, but it was rescinded after her criticism of then-president Donald Trump was found on social media.
