Former First Lady Betty Ford, who died Friday at the age of 93, received front page treatment in her hometown newspapers. Ford was born in Chicago, grew up in Michigan and then lived the last part of her life in California, where she also founded the Betty Ford Clinic. Here’s how those states responded to news of her death.

The former First Lady’s funeral service is being held Tuesday in Palm Springs, home of The Desert Sun, which honored her on its front page.
Upon news of her death, The Desert Sun devoted its entire front page and a special section to Ford’s life. The paper also has extensive online coverage.
Ford will have a second funeral service in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she will be buried on what would have been the 98th birthday of her husband, former President Gerald Ford.
The Grand Rapids Press played up the hometown angle with news of Ford’s death.
The Detroit Free Press featured Ford’s legacy.
The Chicago Sun-Times highlighted Ford’s work getting treatment for people addicted to drugs and alcohol.
The Chicago Tribune was one of many papers that noted Ford’s “candor.”
The Virginian-Pilot also featured the Shuttle launch, along with news of Ford’s death.
The former First Lady’s death was front page news in the nation’s capital.
