PEJ’s weekly tracking found a significant difference in what was most covered last week by blogs, on Twitter and in traditional newspaper and broadcast media. On Twitter, about half of all links shared were related to Rupert Murdoch’s News International scandal. On blogs, the Iraq War accounted for one-quarter of all coverage. And on traditional media — including cable and network TV — the economy and deficit negotiations accounted for one-quarter of all coverage, though Casey Anthony was the top newsmaker. Media Matters, which has targeted Murdoch’s FOX News and has been targeted by them, searched news transcripts and found that FOX had 30 segments about the scandal, compared to 71 for MSNBC and 109 segments on CNN. During a story about coverage of the scandal, CNN correspondent Brian Todd said, “a fair question could be: is CNN maybe overcovering this?” || Related: Emails show Obama White House excluded Fox News Channel (JudicialWatch)
