The foundation, which is “an independent voice and source of facts and analysis for policymakers, the media, the health care community, and the general public,” has put together several resources that can help journalists understand Medicare. Its existing Medicare section was redesigned and launched about a week ago, along with the main Kaiser site.
Among the resources worth noting:
- Resources on the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Debate: Various background materials on different angles of the debate.
- Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Calculator: Allows users to calculate out-of-pocket drug costs.
- Talking With Your Parents: A consumer guide to Medicare and health coverage.
- State Health Facts Online: State-level data on Medicare enrollment, demographics, spending, and more.
The rest of KFF.org – including sections on AIDS, women’s health policy, minority health – should be on your radar. Incidentally, Kaiser runs terrific media fellowship programs: one, for health journalists and the other, mini-fellowships for covering HIV/AIDS globally.
