Hugo Lindgren will leave The New York Times Magazine at the end of this year, Christine Haughney reports. Lindgren “described the last few days as difficult” in a meeting with staffers Tuesday, Haughney writes.
“Hugo completely broke down,” someone “with knowledge” of the meeting told Gawker’s J.K. Trotter.
“He was sobbing and shaking. Completely unable to speak at certain points.” Lindgren’s behavior, the individual said, left the impression that he was not leaving the magazine on his own accord.
Matthew Lynch reported Monday night that Lindgren would leave his post at the magazine.
“There’s been speculation in the Times newsroom that [Executive Editor Jill] Abramson is unhappy with Editor-in-Chief Hugo Lindgren’s stewardship of the magazine and could make a change,” Michael Calderone reported in April.
