Bob Steele, a Vietnam veteran and director of the ethics program at the Poynter Institute, a journalism think tank in St. Petersburg, Fla., says he always believes “in showing the horrors of war,” but only if it serves a significant journalistic purpose.


In the case of Nicholas Berg, broadcasting the moment of his death would cause emotional damage to his family and friends, says Steele. “It’s too fresh, too recent, too painful for anybody to see.”
