Come rain or shine, snow or sleet, or roads that haven’t been cleared, WAMU-FM’s Matt McCleskey made it to work Thursday morning. On skis.

McCleskey, who’s the local host of Morning Edition for the Washington D.C. station, lives just over a mile from the station, he told Poynter in an e-mail, “so not too far. On a normal day I walk to work – but I do love to cross-country ski, so whenever the forecast calls for snow I think about it as an option for getting here. Either way it takes about 20 minutes.”
McCleskey hasn’t had many chances to ski in D.C., he said, but did get one in in January.
“In talking with some of our web folks about my ski last month, they asked me to take a camera along the next time to document the commute – and that’s how this video post came to be.”
McCleskey, who took up cross-country skiing while living in California, wrote just before heading back out for another round on his way home. He wasn’t the only one who had to be creative about getting to work.
