The Call
Nicholas Belanger was delivering copies of The (Woonsocket, Rhode Island) Call to the Li’l General store in Burrillville, Rhode Island, early Sunday morning “when he spotted smoke and flames coming from the back of a duplex.”
“I was doing a bundle drop and heard this crackling and popping sound like a campfire,” Belanger told Call reporter Joseph Fitzgerald. “So, I’m looking around to find out where the heck it’s coming from and then I see the corner of a house down the street all torched up.”
Belanger knocked on a door of the building until “a half-asleep, shirtless” Ian C. Gianlorenzo “stumbled out” a different door, Fitzgerald reports. The report continues:
Belanger said Gianlorenzo looked up and saw the flames and then went back into the house to retrieve some belongings. He said he convinced Belanger to come back out until firefighters arrived.
Belanger’s heroism should come as no surprise to regular readers of this blog.
