Authorities in Texas wish they knew who to thank after a newspaper carrier for the Waxahachie Daily Light alerted residents their house was on fire Saturday.
The carrier “said he didn’t want his name in the paper,” Shelly Conlon reports in the Daily Light.
“I wish I was able to speak to him to tell him thank you,” Red Oak Fire Chief Eric Thompson told Conlon. “I wish I could identified the newspaper carrier,” Ellis County Fire Marshal Joe Stewart said.
“I looked for him afterward, but I was in such a state of mind that he could’ve been standing right next to me and I wouldn’t have known,” said Jackie Shriber, who was awakened by the carrier banging on her door, saying, “Ma’am, your house is on fire.”
In other newspaper carrier news, a carrier for The Charlotte Observer and the Union County Weekly won $278,448 in a Carolina Cash 5 drawing Friday. Christopher Young purchased the ticket, a quick pick, from a Kangaroo Express store in Monroe, N.C.
“I’m going to buy a new car for my wife and one for myself then save the rest for the future,” Young told the Lottery.
