Serial, the podcasting phenomenon that launched a thousand hot takes, has just ended its first season. If you could call what happened this morning an ending.
Before you read any further, you should know that this article contains spoilers. Not any spoilers of the definitive, open-and-shut-case kind, but rather a hair-tearing, foot-stomping reaction to a months-long murder mystery that we’ve all become hugely invested in. Here’s what Serial listeners had to say about the season one finale:
— Jessa (@JessaH) December 18, 2014
@Tomboladiablo @serial ahhhhh
— John Whaite (@JohnWhaiteBakes) December 18, 2014
FINAL @serial AGHHHH
— Marketing Amor (@MarketingAmor) December 18, 2014
So @serial what was the point of that…..
— Böb Orr (@Bob_Orr) December 18, 2014
Well @serial that was unsatisfying, but it HAS to be. Real life doesn't have a season finale.
— Kitty Kat (@Wickedlydeeper) December 18, 2014
Aaaaahhhh WTF @serial #cliffhanger
— Jessica Erin Bowers (@JessicaEBowers) December 18, 2014
What am I supposed to do with this conclusion? I NEED CLOSURE. I WANT JUSTICE. @serial pic.twitter.com/WvvtZXVDre

The @serial finale was disappointing, obviously they couldn't get the facts together but human judgement was absent too, Adnan is innocent!
— Haris Bin Shaukat (@harisbinshaukat) December 18, 2014
Damn you @serial
— Sophie Bleasdale (@SophieBleasdale) December 18, 2014
Can't say I didn't anticipate @serial ending ambiguously, but I think it was the best way to end.
— Andrew Stewart (@Stewsbrews) December 18, 2014
Big remaining hole in @serial is STILL what's deal w/ Jay? Is story of burying Hae just braggadocio? Still think Jen knows way more. #serial
— Matthew Murphy (@CDMatthewMurphy) December 18, 2014
#serialpodcast HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US?! Jk thank you #SarahKoenig and team @serial for all your hard work. #teampodcast
— Nick Reisch (@NickReisch) December 18, 2014
As far as finales go I'd put @serial somewhere between Lost and The Sopranos on the disappointment meter.
— Philadelphia E-Way (@Boxingwithgod) December 18, 2014
.@serial! what is truth? what is truth?!
— Brian LePort (@brianleport) December 18, 2014
NOOO @serial IS OVER AND I NEED TO KNOW MORE
— kellyn marie goler (@the_kel_word) December 18, 2014
Not everyone was upset, though. Many listeners said that Sarah Koenig, the show’s host, had the courage to tell an honest and ambiguous story:
This podcast, man. Definitely not for those who like stories tied up in a neat bow, and they grey will stick with you. Well done, @Serial.
— Ian McLaren (@iancmclaren) December 18, 2014
Nicely done @serial. Amazing storytelling. I loved every second.
— Alisa Wing (@mynameisalisa) December 18, 2014
Bravo, @Serial. What a journey.
— Tyler Hollybells (@TylerHuckabee) December 18, 2014
Last episode of @serial was so incredibly well done. I think it had a very succinct ending considering all we know. Great work Serial team.
— Joshua Hammer (@joshhammz) December 18, 2014
Huge thank you and admiration sent to the @serial team. Great journalism, great production. Just great.
— Darren Waters (@darrenwaters) December 18, 2014
Just finished @serial. A great but infuriating last line. Great great storytelling and a worthwhile investment.
— Lane Young (@laneyoung) December 18, 2014
Well done, @serial. Well done, Sarah and team.
— Dan Wunderlich (@InGreatDeeds) December 18, 2014
And some listeners just seem to be in denial, still:
Can't believe @serial was all a dream.
— Mark Ennis (@MarkEnnis) December 18, 2014
I don't want @Serial to be over.
I don't want @Serial to be over.
I don't want @Serial to be over.
I don't want @Serial to be over.
Over.

Don’t worry, Serial nation. You have time to be infuriated anew when the next season debuts.
