The relaunch issue of The New York Times Magazine is dedicated to David Carr, who died Feb. 12 after collapsing in The New York Times newsroom.
Here’s the dedication, which appears on page 34 of the magazine:
This issue is dedicated to David Carr (1956-2015), who died suddenly as it was being completed. There was no one we hoped to impress more each week than The Times’s veteran media critic, who was a mentor and a friend to many on our staff. His passion for journalism, his courage and his sense of mischief were — and remain — an inspiration to us all.
David Carr was an occasional contributor to the magazine. In 2008, it published “Me and My Girls,” an article adapted from his memoir, “The Night of the Gun.” Other pieces followed, including “Neil Young Comes Clean,” and “America’s Favorite Talking Hothead.”
Several tributes to Carr have come from The Times since his death. On Feb. 13, Times movie critic A.O. Scott called Carr’s contributions to the Times part of “the glory of this newspaper.” Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr., the newspaper’s publisher and chairman, called Carr one of “the most gifted journalists who has ever worked at The New York Times.” There was also a newsroom meeting for Carr that Times journalist Rukmini Callimachi described as “standing-room only.”
