One of the better-known pieces of software to emerge from the post-Communist world, the content management system Campsite, has just had an upgrade. Open source and free, Campsite 2.1 is particularly useful for online publishers working in less common languages, because it is based in Unicode encoding, which allows multiple scripts (fonts) and multiple languages on a single page. Campsite originally was developed as a non-profit initiative by the Center for Advanced Media – Prague (CAMP) along with Transitions Online, an online news leader in Central and Eastern Europe, which started using Campsite in late 2000. CAMP is a division of the Media Development Loan Fund, which assists independent media companies in emerging democracies.
