Forbes’ annual list of “30 Under 30” is out and includes a range of journalists from traditional organizations, start-ups, a newsletter, Twitter and more. Emily Inverso wrote about this year’s class on Monday for Forbes.

What used to be a long-climbed ladder in the news industry is now one built by founders and strengthened by innovators. The next generation of media makers are telling the stories and building the companies they couldn’t seem to find when they went looking — and they’re making millions along the way.

Among those on the list, (which was chosen by The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates, Vox Media’s Jim Bankoff and Twitter’s Katie Stanton):

Heben Nigatu, BuzzFeed senior editor and co-host of the podcast Another Round

Ana Kasparian, cohost, The Young Turks

Derek Thompson, senior editor, The Atlantic

Doreen St. Félix, editor-at-large, Lenny

Nisha Chittal, manager of social media, MSNBC

Last year’s list included 18 women, which was the highest ever. This year 19 women are included. You can see the full list and the other categories
