Mark your calendars. The Poynter Institute is proud to announce dates and details for the third Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media.
The transformative, week-long leadership program will take place the week of March 19-24, 2017, at Poynter’s campus in St. Petersburg, Florida. Like past years, the tuition-free program is open to 28 participants and will offer leadership skills specific to digital media.
Vivian Schiller, a former executive at NPR, The New York Times and Twitter who now advises media companies and brands, will spend the full week at Poynter as a trainer and coach. Raju Narisetti, senior vice president of growth and strategy at NewsCorp, will also join the 2017 faculty. Poynter’s Katie Hawkins-Gaar will once again lead the program along with leadership faculty Butch Ward. Additional guest faculty and coaches will be announced in the coming months.
The women’s leadership academy is one of Poynter’s most important programs, and we’re committed to continually improving the experience. We’re proud to now offer the program to international applicants. And, based on feedback from the previous classes, our curriculum will focus on how to succeed within an organization: from managing up and navigating difficult conversations to becoming an agent for change in the workplace.
As with the previous academies, the program participants will receive in-depth feedback from colleagues, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator results and one-on-one coaching. There’s a pretty good chance the 2017 academy will include another shuffleboard club outing, too.
Because of increased demand — we’ve received nearly 1,000 applications for just over 50 combined seats — there will be two women-focused leadership programs offered next year. The Online News Association, which partnered with Poynter on the 2015 and 2016 leadership academies, will host its own leadership accelerator program, dates and details to come.
