The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has hired online-news pioneer Gary Kebbel
to be its Journalism Initiatives Program Officer. Which means that
he’ll “help the foundation identify the people, processes and projects
that will advance quality journalism and community vitality in the
coming century.”

Kebbel is well known in new-media circles as the former news director
of American Online. He also was in on the creation of USAToday.com and
Newsweek.com, and was an editor at WashingtonPost.com.
