KPCC reached out to some people, “not all celebrities, but just high-profile people,” to see if they’d share messages about social distancing, said Sal LoCurto, the California public radio station’s program director.
“And one of them was Randy Newman.”
Newman, the singer-songwriter whose voice is part of the childhood or parenthood of anyone who’s seen the “Toy Story” movies, is a friend of the station.
“I was asked to do this,” Newman says in a video he shared with the station. “I wrote a song instead.”
“Honestly, we all loved it immediately,” LoCurto said. “It’s classic Randy Newman.”
LoCurto wouldn’t say whom else the station reached out to for social distance messaging, “but hopefully, fingers crossed, we’ll have a few more fun things coming up in the very near future.”
