Gil Asakawa

Gil Asakawa is a journalist and cultural consultant whose experience runs the gamut from at Denver’s alternative weekly newspaper Westword and the Colorado Springs Gazette daily newspaper to the DenverPost.com website and national publications and online outlets. He was a founding member and president of the Asian American Journalist Association’s Denver chapter, and consultant for the Colorado Media Project focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion for the organization’s statewide projects. He’s presented about diversity in the media for the Colorado Press Association and was Diversity Chair for the Colorado Society of Professional Journalists. He is an adviser and mentor with the Boulder Community Foundation’s TRENDS fellowship for journalists of color.
