Can one woman connect young and old journalists?

The Editor & Publisher Website is putting the task to blogger and multimedia consultant Maegan Carberry, Poynter’s Amy Gehran reports. Carberry’s new blog, -31-, will “be exploring how younger journalists can shape the future of news and storytelling.”

In her introduction to the blog, Carberry says  she will try to explain the new media consumption of the younger journalists’ generation to that of the older, primarily print generation.

Gehran is not totally convinced.  Her blog entry, “E&P tries to reach young journalists,” documents E&P’s debut of the blog and brings up a number of concerns, including the esoteric title (guesses, anyone? Click here for Carberry’s own explanation) and the lack of reader feedback ability, as Carberry’s blog does not yet offer comments.

Other than an introduction, Carberry hasn’t offered up any blog entries on -31- just yet. I echo Gehran’s sentiments that if this blog is a success, it will prove an invaluable resource for all journalists to better understand each other, but the lack of a comment function is a problem. How will this blog facilitate a conversation between young and old journalists if we can’t communicate with each other about the posts?

I’d love to hear back from any of my fellow young journalists once this blog really starts to churn out entries.
