There are two important additions to the Society for News Design Web site.
Tools for News is an online database for journalists who want to learn as much as they can about tools, new developments and tips for working online, from audio and video to blogging, data visualization and more.
It started as a personal project for Chris Amico, who recently moved to D.C. to work with the Online “NewsHour” at PBS and who needed it to help him keep track of everything he was using. A reporter and Web developer, Amico said he recently taught himself to shoot video, build interactive maps, blog and put together audio slideshows. The folks at SND convinced him to share.
SND has also adopted a fantastic, searchable site where visual journalists regularly post their work and exchange ideas.
Known for more than six years as NewsPageDesigner.com, the site is the brainchild of Tim Frank, managing editor for visuals/creative director at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Formerly hosted by the Sun Journal in Lewiston, Maine, the database briefly went on hiatus before SND gave it a new home.
