Fact: We need more college students to join our team!

The MediaWise Campus Correspondent program is now hiring four new teammates to join our 2022 team.

We’re looking for college students who are highly reliable, motivated public speakers with a knack for social media and a passion for fighting misinformation. Our team of trained collegiate fact-checkers Zoom into other university classrooms to teach peers how to spot mis- and disinformation online in sophisticated new ways.

It’s a great part-time job: Students get paid $300 per training session (though they’ll also spend some time promoting their presentations on social media and building out custom slide decks for each workshop).

We are looking for students at private colleges, public universities, HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions, community colleges, technical schools — any place that specializes in post-high school learning.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 12. Students will be asked basic demographic information and to answer a short prompt about their commitment to mis- and disinformation debunking, as well as including a social media sample.

Campus Correspondents will learn how to spot misinformation online, find reliable information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and learn how to train their peers on these important skills.

This project will begin in January and last through the entire calendar year (so May 2022 graduates shouldn’t apply). Onboarding will take place in November and December to prepare students to lead presentations.

The first cohort of MediaWise’s Campus Correspondents was central to the success of the MediaWise Voter Project, a nonprofit and nonpartisan program of The Poynter Institute that taught digital literacy skills to more than 1 million first-time voters in 2020.

This group of 10 college students conducted more than 80 virtual digital literacy trainings to more than 2,000 of their peers across campuses in more than 20 states.

In addition to training their peers through Zoom, the Campus Correspondents created fact-check and digital media literacy content for social media, including TikTok and Instagram.

The second cohort of Campus Correspondents is in the process of conducting 35 trainings this school year. The overwhelming demand for their workshops led us to seek additional funding from Facebook and Instagram to offer even more trainings in 2022.
