Linda Shaw is editorial director at the Solutions Journalism Network (SJN), where she works to expand and improve the training, resources and support SJN offers its growing network of newsrooms. She previously worked as SJN’s West Coast region manager, and led SJN’s Renewing Democracy initiative, which catalyzed 100 solutions journalism projects focused on elections, politics and civic life. Before SJN, Shaw worked as a reporter and editor for The Seattle Times, where she led an initiative that became a national model for how to rigorously examine promising approaches to education’s toughest problems. She also helped create an award-winning multimedia project on race called “Under Our Skin,” and won regional and national awards for her reporting on education, real estate, courts, crime and suburban growth. In 2008, she was named beat reporter of the year for large newspapers by the Education Writers Association and in 2011-12, she was a Spencer Education fellow at Columbia University.
