Kathleen McElroy, a Pulitzer juror in 2023, is a professor and the Frank A. Bennack Jr. Chair in Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. Before receiving her doctorate in journalism in 2014, she worked in newsrooms in Texas and New York, including 20 years at The New York Times. Her research focuses on race and news media, especially in obituaries, sports and commentary.
