Nicole Slaughter Graham is the newsletter and social media specialist for NPR Public Editor, Kelly McBride. She researches questions about NPR’s journalism and facilitates dialogue with the audience. She is also a contributor to poynter.org, where she goes behind the scenes to tell the story of how journalists do their work. Prior to joining Poynter, Nicole spent over a decade as a freelance journalist covering local news, health, family/parenting and real estate for local and national outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, NBC News and more. A specialist in local journalism, she also worked alongside St. Petersburg’s The Weekly Challenger, writing for the paper and facilitating workshops on community journalism. Previously, she was an adjunct instructor of community journalism at the University of South Florida – St. Petersburg. Prior to her journalism career, Nicole was a social media and content specialist, focusing on strategy and implementation for businesses. Nicole holds a master’s degree in journalism and media studies from the University of South Florida – St. Petersburg, and a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Eckerd College. She lives in St. Petersburg, FL with her husband and two sons.
