Mark Horvit, the executive director of Investigative Reporters and Editors, is leaving his post at the end of the summer to take a new job at the University of Missouri, where he’s currently an associate professor.
Horvit’s departure was announced Thursday before noon in an email from Sarah Cohen, the president of IRE’s board of directors and an editor at The New York Times.
While this represents a huge loss to IRE, the board is hopeful that we’ll still get to work with Mark from time to time through the university. Mizzou has been our home and partner for 40 years, and Mark will be just down the hall training the next generation of IRE members.
His new job at the University of Missouri will shortly be announced shortly, Cohen wrote.
Horvit, who has been the executive director of IRE for nearly a decade, joined IRE from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where he was projects editor.
