2024 Poynter Journalism Prizes winners announcement
Join the Poynter Institute on April 23 at 2 p.m. Eastern for the announcement of the winners of the 2024 Poynter Journalism Prizes. The event will be shown on poynter.org’s homepage.
Winners and finalists for 10 categories will be announced, including awards for writing, accountability reporting, innovation, freedom of information work, opinion writing and more. Poynter took over the contest from the News Leaders Association last year after the NLA voted to disband. Before that, most of the awards were part of the American Society of News Editors and Associated Press Managing Editors contests. Poynter has a long history with the 45-year-old ASNE awards, which were inspired by the late Gene Patterson when he was editor of the then-St. Petersburg Times. Patterson served as ASNE president, and was chairman of the Poynter Institute, which owns the now Tampa Bay Times. For many years, Poynter hosted the judging for the awards and published an annual book compiling the work of the winners, Best Newspaper Writing.
“Poynter is honored to be the new steward of this respected, longstanding contest honoring some of the best journalism in America,” said Neil Brown, Poynter president.
Results will also be available on Poynter’s website and social media channels on April 23.
