“Canadian won’t have to work anymore,” CBS Mornings host Gayle King appears to say at the start of a video posted June 14 on Facebook. Yes, Canadian; not Canadians.

The suspicious verbal slips keep coming as King’s alleged report continues: “Elon Musk presented his new project in which he has already invested more than $3 billion. Musk’s new project opens up great investment opportunities for Canadian citizens. No project has ever given such opportunities to residents.”

The video makes it seem as though King went on to say,  “Given the exciting features of the application and seeing how it works, we think it’s safe to say that the experience is legit.”

She then appears to say that the “CBS Mornings” program “asked Elon about this news, and here’s what his comments about it.”

The video then cuts to Musk appearing via a video call.

By now it should be obvious: That wasn’t really Gayle King’s voice. This video has been altered.

The post sharing it was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

In the original video, from 2021, King talks to a news anchor for a CBS News affiliate in Boston about Oprah Winfrey’s then-recent interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. She doesn’t mention Elon Musk or a supposed investment opportunity for Canadians.

The video of Musk, comes from a May 2022 recording of the “All-In” podcast. Highlights from that conversation include bots on Twitter, Musk’s opinions about the Biden administration, moving from California to Texas, and his non-Twitter companies, Tesla and SpaceX.

We rate claims that this is an authentic video False.
