Misinformation reaches different people in myriad ways — language, culture, age all play a role in how it spreads. MediaWise bridges the digital divide in communities across the globe to empower anyone to fight falsehoods they face — on any platform.

International Teen Fact-Checking Network

The Teen Fact-Checking Network (TFCN) is growing – internationally! MediaWise is excited to announce the first-ever expansion of the TFCN – launching in May 2023, in Brazil and Germany. Our partners, Lupa News in Brazil and Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) in Germany, will work with teens to create video fact-checks and media literacy tips that will be published on the partners’ social media channels. Visit our partners’ websites and follow their social media accounts to see teen fact checks in Portuguese and German.

Librarian Toolkit

MediaWise is partnering with The American Library Association (ALA) and Stanford Social Media Lab, to prepare for the flood of falsehoods promised by the 2024 election. MediaWise aims to equip thousands of librarians across the country with Be MediaWise: A Misinformation Resilience Toolkit. The suite of resources will help any librarian in the U.S. launch engaging media literacy programming.

Tip

It’s easy to get caught in our own echo chambers. You might get stuck consuming a narrow range of perspectives from your own digital network, community, province or country.. Misinformation thrives in echo chambers.. We challenge you to climb out of your silos and explore global, legitimate resources to broaden your knowledge.

Guatemala WhatsApp Expansion

MediaWise is partnering with Guatevision and their parent company Grupo Prensa Libre to equip Guatemalans and neighboring Spanish speakers with media literacy skills via WhatsApp. Participants will walk through the bite-sized course with ambassadors Kevin Cordón, Guatemalan Badminton Olympian, and María Luisa Gómez, renowned Guatemalan journalist and presenter. In just five minutes a day, through a brief text message and video, participants will hone their media literacy skills, including how to conduct a better internet search, how to identify manipulated videos or images and how to not give into emotions when interacting with multimedia online.

Turkey WhatsApp continuation

With upcoming elections, MediaWise extended the Turkish media literacy WhatsApp course originally launched in 2022. MediaWise is partnering with the Faculty of Communication at Istanbul Bilgi University to customize and localize the educational content. Fact-checking partner Doğruluk Payı will offer in-person and virtual training opportunities throughout Turkey ahead of the upcoming elections.
