India

In a multilingual media literacy initiative, journalists across India join the effort to empower individuals with skills to more safely navigate the internet. The first of these journalists is Ritu Kapur, The Quint’s Managing Director and Co-founder, delivering the videos in English. Shekhar Gupta, ThePrint’s Editor-in-Chief, joins the effort to reach those speaking the Hindi language.

MediaWise partnered with DataLEADS, a digital media and technology company, and its media literacy program, FactShala, to launch the first of its kind ambassador-led educational video series in India. The video series, developed with a micro-learning format in mind and catering to viewers’ busy schedules, will incorporate trusted local journalists as the voice of media literacy education. The videos are a component of the newly launched FactShala Ambassador Program.

Topics include techniques such as how to detect misleading data visualizations, how to verify manipulated images, how to spot misinformation warning signs, how to navigate difficult conversations with friends and family about misinformation, along with several more topics.

The videos will be co-published at social media handles for FactShala, The Quint, The Print and MediaWise.

Stay tuned as additional languages and ambassadors join the project!
