When news organizations — or anyone creating content — uses AI, they should clearly disclose that use. An AI disclosure policy should:

• Explain why using AI benefits the audience.
• Be transparent on exactly how the AI was used in the content.
• Explain how a human verified that the information is free of bias and factual errors.
• Ensure privacy and security standards are met.
• Take accountability for any mistakes that the AI causes.

The more standards like these that an AI policy meets, the more transparent that policy is.
