Allison Hoffman is the executive editor of CNN Politics, where she leads coverage of Washington, elections and policy issues across CNN’s global digital platforms. She was previously the senior politics and policy editor for CNN, where she led digital coverage of the intersection between the administration and the economy, working across CNN teams in Washington and New York. Prior to joining CNN, Hoffman was national editor at Politico, where she oversaw coverage of the White House starting with the inauguration of President Donald Trump in 2017. She was previously the politics and policy editor for Bloomberg Businessweek, where she led the magazine’s coverage of the Obama administration and the 2016 presidential campaign from Washington. Before joining Businessweek, she helped launch the online magazine Tablet, where she wrote longform political profiles and later edited the magazine’s daily news section. A native Californian, Hoffman began her career at the Los Angeles Times, where she got her start covering the 2003 gubernatorial recall election that led to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first election, and later covered the 2008 presidential campaign from California for the Associated Press. She also worked as a fact-checker at the New Yorker, helping produce the magazine’s definitive coverage of the Bush administration’s torture and renditions practices. Hoffman holds a BA from Oxford University’s Balliol College in politics, philosophy and economics, as well as a master’s degree from the Columbia School of Journalism.
