Evan is an international journalism and history double major from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He helped coordinate teams of reporters as city desk and campus desk editor for Michigan State’s independent newspaper, The State News. Additionally, as Capital News Service assistant bureau chief, he reported 17 enterprise stories about statewide issues throughout the fall semester, sifting through dozens of local newspapers to find them published. He has also covered development projects, scooter policy and marijuana regulations as a city beat reporter for The State News. His interest in journalism and public affairs in particular stems from nine years on the debate team, throughout high school and into college. He hopes that the MediaWise Voter Project is his way to make the biggest difference possible in getting students involved in the political process. In the future, Evan aims to continue reporting on politics and public policy.
With all the rumors that circulate on the internet and around Michigan State, I’m excited to make a difference for first-time voters in November. I have a strong interest in journalism and politics. This opportunity seemed right up my alley.
