Felix Simon

Felix M. Simon is a communication researcher and doctoral student at the Oxford Internet Institute, where he has spent the last four years researching the effects of artificial intelligence in journalism and the news industry. His research, which covered AI’s use at more than 30 international news organizations including The Guardian, The New York Times, the BBC and Der Spiegel, a German newsmagazine, seeks to understand AI, and generative AI’s structural implications for news organizations’ production and distribution processes and the public sphere.
Simon is a Knight News Innovation Fellow at and an affiliate at the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also works as a research assistant at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Studies as well as English Studies (Distinction) from Goethe-University Frankfurt, and he holds an Master of Science in social science of the internet from the Oxford Internet Institute. He is a fellow at the Salzburg Global Seminar and an associate fellow of the U.K. Higher Education Academy and sits on the AI and Local News Steering Committee of Partnership on AI.
