Johnny Magdaleno

Johnny Magdaleno is the courts and legal affairs reporter at the Indianapolis Star. Prior to joining the Star he worked as a freelance reporter in the U.S. and abroad for the New York Times, Al Jazeera, VICE News, Reuters, Newsweek and other news outlets. He and two of his colleagues were finalists for a 2022 Pulitzer Prize in local reporting for their investigation into Indiana’s red flag law. He was also part of teams that were awarded first place this year for criminal justice reporting and breaking news reporting in the Indiana Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists competition.
