Shajaka Shelton, a fellow at The Washington Informer (D.C.), is a senior at Georgetown University studying English and Journalism. She is currently the editor of the Georgetown Independent’s social commentary section and has previously worked as a copy editor for the Georgetown Voice. She has also worked in communications for the Michigan Department for Civil Rights. Much of her journalistic work has been focused on interrogating questions of race, class and gender, and the effects these intersecting identities have on the disadvantaged. Her family lives in Dewitt, Mich., and she has a 2-month old niece and a very large cat named Kuma.
