Shekhar Gupta is the founder and editor of ThePrint, a multimedia news website based in India.

In his four-decade journalism career, Shekhar covered major news events both domestically in India and globally, such as the Nellie massacre in Assam, Operation Blue Star, the student uprising in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the first Gulf War from Baghdad, the first, US-backed jihad in Afghanistan, and the Sri Lankan Civil War.

Currently, Shekhar hosts ThePrint’s Off the Cuff. Airing twice a month, the program focuses on candid and thought–provoking conversations Shekhar conducts with notable guests. His YouTube show, Cut The Clutter, provides a daily recap and analysis of India and the world’s biggest news stories of the day.

Shekar is a prolific columnist.His weekly column, National Interest, is translated into five languages. A selection of these columns was collected in the bestselling book Anticipating India.

From 2003 and 2017, Shekhar hosted Walk the Talk on NDTV 24×7. A collection of these interviews has been published as a book titled Walk the Talk: Decoding Politicians. Previously, Shekhar served as editor-in-chief of The Indian Express for 19 years and simultaneously held the position of the company’s chief executive for 13 years.

Shekhar is the recipient of multiple journalism awards including Inlaks Journalist of the Year Award (1985), the G.K Reddy Memorial Award (1987), the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Award for National Integration (2006), the Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Award (2016), and the Padma Bhushan (2009).
