Sonia Rao

Sonia Rao is a first-year at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in media and journalism and economics. She is an assistant city and state editor for The Daily Tar Heel, UNC’s independent student-run newspaper that provides the only local print coverage in the area. In her free time, she plays competitive Ultimate Frisbee for UNC’s club women’s A-team, the Pleiades. She hopes to one day be a journalist at a local newspaper and help local news industries figure out a sustainable business model for the future. Sonia is passionate about local news and student voter turnout, so when she heard about the MediaWise Voter Project program, she knew it was perfect for her.

I am honored to work with so many other inspiring students across the country and so excited to use my interest in elections, voter turnout and this program to educate potential student voters about media literacy.
